Written in 2006 Here
is the deal - when it comes to global warming and climate change Listen
to the scientists today and do everything YOU can do NOW, This
is what I TRULY believe are the facts, HOWEVER within only 30 years, we WILL see drinking water shortages and temperatures rise to deadly levels until, in the UKs case, the Gulf stream cools reducing our temperatures below freezing. But
FAR FAR WORSE I personally predict a breakdown in civilization within
only 15 to 20 years as panic, fear, greed and survival instincts takes
hold along the way. There
is no point today expending one more ounce of energy struggling for ANYTHING
Halting
the Climate Crisis must be your top priority today I TRULY believe that this is going to happen - UNLESS every one of us does the following things. 1. Read a good summary of the Nicholas Stern report today's 'Independent' newspaper has a very balanced report 31-10-06 a summary of the report is available from Reuters http://today.reuters.com/News/CrisesArticle.aspx?storyId=L28856878 2. Watch the movie
documentary "An inconvenient Truth" it is out on DVD 3. Read the facts and advice on http://www.climatecrisis.net/ and follow the links 4. Read between the lines and look out for the hidden agendas as you hear more and more reports and statements from politicians and mass media on the subject. 5. Don't be fooled into thinking this is going to effect others in some third world and not you - we are all in this together 6. Some say it's a waste of effort for us in the UK doing anything while USA China and India's CO2 emission swamp any reduction we achieve. I say so WHO is going to do anything to save YOU can you afford to be THAT fatalistic. This is your ONLY and LAST opportunity. 7. Ignore the doubters ( they are self deluded, self interested and scared silly to believe) follow the convinced, what have you to lose??? 8. Don't let this issue be drowned in politics ( if you do - NO one is going to WIN ) 9. Be active and push and support proactive corporate and government decisions 10. Reduce your air flight travel 11. Do the little things NOW - turn off all the standby electricals and chargers, change to low energy light bulbs, turn down the heating, insulate your home, reduce your water usage (especially hot water) 12. Check and change your energy appliances to low energy models (boilers, washing machines, fridges etc) 13. Buy electricity from green suppliers if you can 14. Check and change your car as soon as possible for a low emission model and find ways of reducing your usage and check and adjust your tyre pressures. ( do your research i.e. a new BMW 318d is far more economical than a hybrid Toyota Prius) 15. Recycle - But more importantly avoid packaging and push for corporates to reduce packaging 16. Plant a tree - plant lots if you can 17. Only have one child and consider not having any (if half of us did that we would be heading back to a vastly more sustainable population) . IF - EVERY ONE of us takes these small steps we can TOGETHER save this planet from catastrophe What
are Miss Lelly and I doing personaly ? We havn't had children We are increasing the time we work from home and phone to reduce our traveling We have built a super insulated energy efficient house We are studying the potentiol of investing in a 5kw wind turbine or photvoltaic cells to power the house We have drilled a bore hole for our water well We have planted over 1000 trees We are have stopped not traveling by air since 2005 We are making each and every day count making it as good a day as possible We are trusting in you and everyone you talk to save us (and you) and those that live beyond our lifetime www.greenlow.co.uk/bungalow.htm for the full build diary to date PLEASE
DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR FUTURE AND YOUR CHILDRENS FUTURE |
